General Description
RealView is a fast Text/Picture Viewer.
RealView will open ANY FILE of ANY SIZE and display its contents in three modes:
• TEXT - Display contents as plain text with a choice of font and size
• ORIGINAL - Display text with fonts, font sizes, colors and pictures
• HEXADECIMAL - display the file contents, byte by byte as hexadecimal numbers
RealView is very fast. Our tests show that RealView is about 4 times faster than Simple Text!
NOTE: new features in this release look RED!
System Requirements

* 68020 CPU (MacII) or later
Possible uses for RealView
• Viewing text files
RealView can open Text files displaying then with their fonts, font sizes, colors and Embedded Pictures. RealView does it about 4 times faster than Simple Text.
• Viewing PICT files
RealView can open and display Picture files.
• Viewing 'non regular' text files
RealView can open PC, UNIX or HTML files and convert them on the fly to Macintosh format.
• Viewing 'Invisible' and 'Busy' files
Through the 'Open File' dialog box you can see and open files that are invisible from the Finder, you can also open 'Busy' files (files that are already open from another application).
• Viewing 'Other' files
For Hacking, Reverse engineering or just for plain curiosity. RealView can display files as they are, either as plain text or as Hexadecimal.
• File Conversion
Through the "Convert" menu you can quickly convert a file from one format into another. You can convert UNIX files into Mac files, Mac files into UNIX files and HTML files into Text files.
How to use RealView
RealView's features are self explanatory so this very short guide will deal only with the not-so-obvious features:
Find
From the "File" menu you can launch a search for a text or a hexadecimal string. The search is performed from head to bottom or from the place you've last clicked at onward.
NOTE: The text search is case sensitive.
Preferences
From the "File" menu you can open the 'Preferences' dialog box. Use the preferences to set:
• Default Display Mode: If you wish for RealView, when it opens a file, to automatically identify the file and display it as it is, select 'ORIGINAL' or, if you wish to see newly opened files as plain text, select 'TEXT' otherwise, to see files as Hex data select 'HEXADECIMAL'.
• Default Font and Default Size: Here you can select the default font and default font size for the Text and Hexadecimal display modes.
• Default Page Setup: Pressing this button will bring up the standard Page Setup dialog box where you can choose the page size on which RealView would layout newly opened files.
• Show document details: Here you can Turn on/off the display of the files details that are shown at the top of every window.
Tips
Here are some (hopefully) helpful tips to help you get the most out of RealView:
Closing All Windows
Clicking on a windows close box while holding the 'Option' key will close all open windows.
Opening very large files
Sometimes, when you try to open an especially big file you'll get a 'not enough memory' alert. To solve this problem you may increase RealView's preferred memory allocation (through the "Get Info" dialog box in the finder). If you simply want to abort an on-going open file process, see the "Aborting a long file open" section.
Aborting a long file open
If you try to open a very large text file (and I mean VERY large) or another type of file, it might take RealView a while to prepare it for display. You can abort this preparation process by pressing . (Command key + Period). RealView will immediately display the file in Hexadecimal mode.
Fast/Slow Scrolling
You can control and alter the speed of scrolling a document. When you mark a text (to save it or copy it to the clipboard), the closer you are to the bottom of the window, the slower the scrolling will be (down to one pixel at a time) the further your cursor is down to the bottom of the screen, the faster the scrolling will be.
